New Florida Law Changes HOA Rules on RVs
There are so many wonderful ways that you can use a Bowlus luxury RV. The obvious choice is to hitch it up and take off on an amazing adventure. But many of our customers use theirs more creatively. It turns out that the Endless Highways and Rivet make the perfect casita, pool house or guest house.
It makes sense when you think about it. Rather than erecting a whole new building in the backyard, you can create a one-of-a-kind space with your Bowlus. Guests will love the independence offered by the spa-like bathroom and the fully stocked kitchen. You’ll love the sanctuary it provides when you’re looking for a quiet place to relax, take a quiet nap, or catch up on a guilty pleasure.
Sounds like bliss, right? But we know what you’re thinking. What if you live in a deed restricted community with a homeowner’s association (HOA) that prohibits you from parking an RV on your property? Well, there’s good news if you live in Florida.
Last year, the state of Florida passed legislation that says an HOA cannot impose blanket bans prohibiting RVs from being parked on residential property. Statute 720.3045, which took effect July 1, 2023, says:
“Regardless of any covenants, restrictions, bylaws, rules, or requirements of an association, and unless prohibited by general law or local ordinance, an association may not restrict parcel owners or their tenants from installing, displaying, or storing any items on a parcel which are not visible from the parcel’s frontage or an adjacent parcel, including, but not limited to, artificial turf, boats, flags, and recreational vehicles.”
In other words, so long as your RV is not visible from the street or from your neighbor’s yard, Florida HOAs may no longer unduly restrict you from using your property as you see fit. And that could pave the way for your backyard oasis, especially if you add some landscaping to increase the privacy of your outdoor space.
The laws governing HOAs vary state to state, but actions like the one taken by Florida legislators open a whole new world of possibilities for Bowlus owners. How will you use your Bowlus?
