4 Adventures for You, Your Dog & Your Bowlus®
It’s a very special day at Bowlus: Betty turns four! Who, you ask? My Portuguese Water Dog. She’s kind of a big deal around here. Want to follow along on our adventures? Find us at Bowlus on Instagram. In honor of the office mascot, we’ve asked Betty to tell us more about dog-friendly Bowlus adventures. We’ve taken the liberty of translating:
1. San Onofre State Beach, CA
Born and raised a California girl, Betty’s top pick is the beach. It involves her two favorite things: water and a ball. She loves to play fetch in the waves! Golden sands, rugged bluffs and the proximity to San Clemente and San Diego makes San Onofre State Beach the ideal outing for you and your best friend. We’re glad the Bowlus’ showerhead can extend for an outdoor shower—it’s perfect for those sandy paws. There are also dozens of rental shops around. If your pup’s adventurous (and doesn’t mind getting a little wet), take them out on a paddleboard! Best of all, San Onofre is just a short jaunt away from dog-crazy San Diego. If you have time for a treat, be sure to stop at Paw Pleasers dog bakery.
2. Mt. Hood National Forest, OR
Although Mt. Hood is known for its snowsport scene, its vistas are equally stunning in the summertime. Dog-friendly campsites abound, and there are some truly amazing trails in the area. On a clear day, Cooper Spur is unparalleled. Kick off your hike at Cloud Cap Trailhead. You’ll tread over soft volcanic ash, through windswept old-growth forests of mountain hemlock and arrive at the summit of Cooper Spur. The view of Mount Jefferson and Mount Rainer may just steal your breath away. If you have time to swing by the city, Portland is incredibly dog-friendly. Stop for a bite at Lucky Labrador Beer Hall, Portland’s original dog bar, or Tin Shed Garden Cafe, which has a dog menu.
3. Becket, MA
Held in the Berkshires, Camp Unleashed is the ultimate retreat for dogs and their humans. 1,300 acres of forest, lush mountain terrain and a spring-fed lake are yours for the exploring. Discover your furry friend’s secret talent for agility, canine water sports or scent work. Paint your pooch’s portrait. Take educational classes on how to strengthen your dog-human relationship. Camp Unleashed has a few locations, but Berkshires is the most RV friendly. There are no hookups, but that’s no problem for the lithium-powered Bowlus. You and the pup can stay up to a week off grid with luxuries like hot water and heated floor (although Betty’s favorite place to sleep is the cool spot under the table). Packing is easy, too; the Bowlus’ clever storage units mean no toy gets left behind.
4. Seattle, WA
Seattle is surrounded by natural beauty. It also happens to be one of the most dog-crazed cities in the country. Bring your dog inside for lunch at Norm’s Eatery & Ale House (we’ll tell you a secret: their vegetarian sliders are the best in all of Seattle). Enjoy urban hikes at Discovery Park or the Washington Arboretum. The Bowlus handles tight metropolitan spaces with grace, so you can start your adventure in the city and then head out to Olympic National Park when you’re ready to camp under the glorious Peninsula sky.
Adventuring on your terms is important. That means being able to go to the places you want with the ones you love. Our adventures wouldn’t be the same without Betty. For many of us who don’t want to leave our dogs behind, a dog sitter isn’t enough. In the Endless Highways Editions, the air conditioning can run for up to four hours off the battery (and with the Performance Edition up to two overnights), so if you have to run an errand, you’ll know that your dog (or cat!) is comfortable. With its spacious floor plan, ample storage, and outdoor shower, your four-footed companion will be right at home.
