Unfortunately, not every trip can be a multi-week long road event that stretches from coast to coast. Sometimes, all we have is just the weekend. Luckily, in a Bowlus, even a weekend road trip can be a fantastic, memorable, luxury experience. Here are four of the best weekend getaways available, no matter where you live.
#1. Rocky Mountain National Park, Estes Park, Colorado
If you’re in the Colorado area, take a weekend getaway trip to Rocky Mountain National Park. The park is made up of over 400 square miles of some of the most spectacular mountains in the country. With a nearly endless amount of hiking to do, it’s difficult to choose how you want to spend your weekend.
One of the must-sees while you’re there is Trail Ridge Road, the highest paved through-road in America (at a 12,000-foot elevation). When it opened in 1931, it was referred to as a “scenic wonder road of the world,” and it has continued to be just as impressive. There are thrilling views of aspen and ponderosa pine forests, alpine wildflower exhibitions, and wildlife sightings.
If you’d rather see the sights on foot instead of by car, you won’t want to miss two of our favorite hiking trails—Chasm Lake and Mount Ida. Chasm Lake is just under ten miles of difficult terrain, but your hard work will be rewarded with a waterfall. Mount Ida can be equally difficult, but it features panoramic views of the Continental Divide that aren’t available in other places in the park.
When you’re ready to call it a day, there are a few different options for where to camp for the night. If you’re planning in advance, check out the Aspenglen Campground, which should be reserved about six months before your trip. It does not have any hookups, which makes it perfect for your Bowlus due to its ability to be off-grid for your entire trip without giving up all the modern amenities it provides.
If this is a spontaneous trip, you’ll love the Timber Creek Campground, which is available on a first-come, first-served basis.
No matter where you camp and what you choose to do while you’re at Rocky Mountain National Park, make sure to end your day in a Bowlus. While other people struggle with cold showers and uncomfortable air mattress, you’ll be comfortable in your Bowlus.
Pro tip: If the park seems busy, check out the west side. Eighty percent of visitors to Rocky Mountain National Park come in through the east entrance.
#2. North Cascades National Park, Sedro-Woodley, Washington
For a great weekend getaway on the West Coast, check out North Cascades National Park. Situated just three hours northeast of Seattle near the Canadian border, the park is referred to as the “ecological heart” of the Cascades—and for good reason.
Due to its remote location, North Cascades National Park is the sixth least visited national park in the country. That makes it the perfect place to get away for the weekend, especially if you’re looking to get off-grid with your Bowlus and spend a little time communing with nature.
There are two don’t-miss trails to check out during your visit—Cascade Pass Trail and Desolation Peak Trail. While Cascade Pass Trail is home to our favorite hike, with epic scenery like nowhere else in the world, Desolation Peak Trail is known for inspiring well-known author Jack Kerouac. If you have time to hike at least a portion of its eighteen miles, you’ll be rewarded with views of multiple mountains and glaciers. Be aware, though, that this is an extremely strenuous hike.
Newhalem Creek Campground is a great place to stay if planning in advance (at least six months), and Goodell Creek Campground is first-come, first-served. Both make perfect camping spots for your Bowlus, allowing you to enjoy all the benefits of camping off-grid in your luxury travel trailer. And, after a long day of hiking, you’ll definitely want the hot shower, warm meal, and soft bed it provides.
#3.Shenandoah National Park, Luray, Virginia
If you’re on the other side of the country, take a weekend getaway to Shenandoah National Park in Luray, Virginia.
Featuring part of the world-famous Appalachian Trail, which spans from Maine to Virginia, Shenandoah National Park is an absolute can’t-miss for any nature-lover. With nearly endless hiking trails and outdoor activities, picking just one can be the hardest part of your trip. We’d suggest checking out the sunset at Hawksbill Mountain or hiking the Doyles River-Jones Run loop. Both will give you views and scenery like nowhere else in the country.
If you visit in the fall, take part of the Skyline Drive through the Blue Ridge Mountains. It takes about three hours to complete the 105-mile drive, but it winds through scenery that will take your breath away.
Shenandoah National Park is also a great place to enjoy all the benefits that your Bowlus has to offer. Our top campsites are Big Meadow and Loft Mountain, although they tend to book out relatively far during the busy season. If you’re visiting during the offseason, however, they are first-come, first-served. Either one makes for the perfect luxury travel trailer camping experience, however, so you have a warm, comfortable place to come back to at the end of the day. And you’ll definitely want that comfort after being on your feet all day, instead of contending with the elements in a sleeping bag on the ground.
#4. Anything Off-Grid!
You don’t have to make the trip to a national park to enjoy a weekend getaway. Thanks to all of the luxury that the Bowlus provides (either the Endless Highways or Endless Highways Performance Edition), you can head out anywhere, on or off-grid.

You won’t have to worry about uncomfortable sleeping arrangements, either. The bedroom in the Bowlus treats campers to a hotel-like experience without having to head into the city. The high-quality mattress comes with a memory foam top layer and eco-linen sheets that fit both a single king-size mattress or two twin beds.
